Do you ever have trouble falling asleep? I have heard from too many people recently. I always roll my eyes because there are dozens of techniques to help you fall asleep right away. Most people also do several things that really sabotage them getting to sleep.
If you have to wait 10-20 minutes to fall asleep, that’s not such a big deal. When you are lying in bed for hours… that when you need a new technique. As the time ticks by, you get more and more tense. You probably start to worry about how little sleep you will get and how it will affect the next day. You worry if you will ever fall asleep. Part of the problem is trying too hard to fall asleep. When you try too hard to do anything, you become stressed out and it generally doesn’t work. If you find that you can’t get to sleep, you may want to try to stay up!
If you try to count sheep to fall asleep, you are just going to get anxious the higher the number goes. You need to let go.
Seriously, here is a simple, easy way to help you fall asleep:
1) Tense your muscles, then relax. Let it all go.
2) Start taking slow, deep breaths.
3) Repeat softly, slowly, and in a calm, relaxed manner: “sleep”.
Don’t worry about following the directions perfectly. Just repeating “sleep” in a relaxed manner will help. Each time you use this technique, you make it work even better.
Chill. Take deep breaths. “Sleeeeep. Sleeeeep.” Please wait until you are in bed!
